ECHA Supports Restriction to Limit the Use of Lead for Outdoor Shooting and Fishing

ECHA announces its Committees for Socio-Economic Analysis (SEAC) and for Risk Assessment (RAC) agreed that a restriction under REACH is the most appropriate EU-wide measure to address the risks to wildlife, people and the environment posed by the use of lead for hunting, outdoor sports shooting and fishing.

This restriction could prevent the release of over 600,000 tonnes of lead into the environment, save millions of birds from lead poisoning and protect children in hunter families. The combined RAC and SEAC opinion and the RAC’s supplementary opinion will be published  early 2023.
